Leading Change:
OUR COLLABORATION WITH HBS BIGS
AND PARTICIPATION IN THE GLOBAL LEADERSHIP ROUNDTABLES
¿What is HBS BiGS?
The Institute for Business in Global Society (BiGS), founded by Harvard Business School (HBS) in 2022, aims to help business leaders understand and respond to the world’s most pressing social challenges.
BiGS focuses on integrating and expanding research on critical issues such as climate change and inequality, creating platforms that educate leaders and drive action in these areas. Through initiatives like the Global Leadership Roundtables, BiGS fosters the development of innovative strategies to address structural problems in different regions of the world.
¿What are the Global Leadership Roundtables

The Global Leadership Roundtables are events organized by BiGS that bring together business leaders, NGO executives, government officials, and academics to discuss society's most urgent challenges.
Each roundtable focuses on a specific regional issue, exploring the evolving role of business in society and fostering networks of leaders committed to implementing innovative strategies.
During these events, participants exchange ideas and best practices to align business growth with social impact and sustainability goals.
Our Collaboration in the 2024 Report:
Democratizing development: Inequality in Latin America

São Paulo, Brazil – July 2024
In July 2024, our CEO, Jorge Quintanilla Nielsen, traveled to São Paulo, Brazil, to participate in discussions that contributed to the HBS BiGS report: "Democratizing Development: How Business Can Accelerate Economic Mobility." This study examines inequality in Latin America and the role of the private sector in fostering sustainable economic opportunities.
The report is based on insights from the 2023 BiGS Leadership Roundtable, where leading business executives shared their experiences on how the private sector can contribute to inclusive development.
During the event, Jorge Quintanilla Nielsen emphasized the importance of an integrated business strategy to ensure long-term sustainability and competitiveness:

"Incorporating a social dimension into business strategy not only extends a company’s longevity but also allows it to differentiate itself and avoid the commodity trap."
"Businesses must get involved because they can innovate, take risks, and scale. We have unique capabilities, so we must find the balance between profitability and social responsibilities."
"The time when maximizing shareholder profit was the only priority is over. Now is the moment to work with other stakeholders to make a difference in reducing inequality. We need to find business arguments and strategies that truly create a virtuous cycle."
This report reinforces the idea that businesses play a crucial role in social transformation and must take an active leadership role in creating more equitable economies.
